Internet of Things for Smart Buildings
[1]
- © Sergio Lucia
Buildings are a center point in our lives. We spend more than 20 hours per day inside them, and buildings consume more than 40 % of the energy of our cities. Those figures mean that even small improvements in the operation or in the interaction with humans could have large impacts on society. Higher energy efficiency, increased comfort for the humans that live and work inside buildings, as well as lower emissions are some of the goals of Smart Buildings.
Thanks to the ubiquity of sensors, actuators, intelligence and communication, the Internet of Things offers a perfect opportunity to make buildings truly smarter, which is the focus of our laboratory. The work in our group has a strong interdisciplinary character. New aspects of Cybernetics, Informatics, Electrical Engineering, but also human-machine-interactions will be researched and developed in order to shape the buildings of the future.
