Research
Our goal at the Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart Buildings is to develop new ideas, methods and algorithms that leverage the new possibilities offered by the internet of things to shape the future of smart buildings and the smart city.
Research projects
In particular, we are interested in the interplay between the ubiquitous components of the Internet of Things: Sensing, Actuation, Communication, Intelligence & Control. Only a holistic approach that studies and designs such components and its interactions in an optimal manner will enable the true potential of the Internet of Things. To achieve these goals, we use mathematical models, obtained via physical knowledge or data, and numerical optimization to perform optimal and automatic decision making, which can be used to develop autonomous and adaptive operation techniques, predictive maintenance, or make design choices for the sensing or communication technologies to be used.
We are currently pursuing the following research topics:
Autonomous and efficient use of real-time data
Dealing with low power communications
