Sergio Lucia is Assistant Professor at the Technische Universität Berlin and at the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF) since May 2017, where he heads the Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart Buildings. His research is focused on leveraging new advances in optimization, control systems, machine learning and communications technology to help shape the future of the Internet of Things and Smart buildings.

Sergio Lucia studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Zaragoza (Spain) including one year of ERASMUS exchange at TU Berlin. He then joined the group of Sebastian Engell at TU Dortmund to pursue his PhD in the field of model-based control and optimization, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2014. In February 2015, he moved to the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg as a Postdoctoral Associate in the group of Rolf Findeisen and was a Postdoctoral Fellow from May 2016 to September 2016 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the group of Richard Braatz.

Among other awards, Sergio Lucia obtained the Extraordinary Degree Award for the best GPA in electrical engineering of the University of Zaragoza in 2011 as well as the VAA Dissertation award for outstanding Dissertations in the field of process engineering in Germany (2015).
